Jack Halloway at The Garage Sale Project
asked me to exhibit something in his awesome off space. I had spent much of February of 2012 in New York City. While I was there I rode subways recording people in The City That Never Sleeps only to find that sleep is what so many of its citizens desperately need. I decided to compile the footage for a 35 minute 3 channel video installation at the GSP. The installation captured how the people of NY still find time to catch up on slumber between their stops amongst the constant bombardment of clanking metal sounds, odd smells, maximum occupancy, and anti-terror MTA advisories. I found that though the barrage of the prior factors may indeed have a cradling effect, the footage never the less exposed how overworked the urbanite is.
